Into the Dreich

The train ride up to Edinburgh, along the east coast; watching the sea go by through the rain spattered window. It's a journey I've made a lot over the years and it never disappoints. The moodiness of the views, the white noise of the train's engines drowning the world out, it's an experience in itself and it's before you even get to the beautiful city itself. Often rainy and dark, windy as standard, Edinburgh is the gem in the Kingdom's crown.
The barren land
Bereft of folk
Who ceased their wander far below
A windy morn
Touched by frost
A daunder of disquiet
Bundled up and climbing high
Looking out o’er the brae
Across the unspoiled wolds
A bitter breathe in, the lasting glance
And back down into the dreich
